Mont Saint Michel Bay

Since 1979, the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Bay’s image and worldwide reputation are closely linked to the quality of the landscapes that form the backdrop to Mont Saint-Michel.

These highly diverse landscapes take you on a journey from seascapes – foreshore, herbus, dunes, cliffs, etc. – to Norman or Breton bocage landscapes, via urban landscapes.

Our campsite in the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel is an ideal starting point for discovering Normandy.

Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey near your Normandy campsite

In 709, following an apparition, Aubert, bishop of Avranches, decided to build a chapel and establish priests to pray to the Archangel Saint Michael on a deserted, tide-beaten rock called Mont “Tombe”.
In 966, Benedictine monks settled here and built a huge church on top of the rock to welcome the many pilgrims.

In the 13th century, new buildings were erected with six magnificent rooms immediately named : La Merveille.

In the 15th century, following the collapse of the abbey church’s Romanesque choir, a new flamboyant Gothic choir was built.

A visit to Mont Saint Michel Abbey will introduce you to this unique example of medieval architecture and its three building styles: Romanesque, Gothic and Flamboyant Gothic.
